Paul Monroe
 
Paul Monroe is our 14-19 Diploma specialist he has been involved in curriculum management in FE and HE for twenty years. He has undertaken curriculum development at every level for most, if not all, of the awarding bodies and, more relevantly, wrote all three levels of the AQA-City & Guilds 14-19 Diplomas in Construction and the Built Environment. He has provided advice and consultancy on the new 14-19 Diplomas to head teachers, civil servants and teachers.

Art & Design


Victoria Dow

Victoria is an experienced external verifier and examiner for BTEC Creative Industries sectors.  She has been the creative director of her multidisciplinary design agency for 20 years, the same duration as she has worked as an Edexcel Assessment Associate, Programme Writer and Briefer.

Sorrel Stratford

Sorrel is an experienced assessor and internal verifier for BTEC Art and Design programmes.  She has been teaching in Secondary, Further and Higher Education since 1996.  She has worked as a PGCE mentor at a number of colleges and has been involved in programme writing.  Sorrel has excellent hands on experience, which is reflected in her conference evaluations.
 

Business
 

David Knowles

David is our business specialist with 26 years experience of delivering BTEC Business at First, National and Higher National levels.  He has also undertaken inspection and verification works for a variety of organisations.  In recent years he has worked as a Quality Improvement Manager in his college where he had responsibility for all aspects of assessment and internal verification.

Carol Thorpe

Carol has a great deal of experience in writing qualifications as well as delivering them.  One of her roles has been the Assessment Development Manager for BTEC qualifications.  She has over 20 years experience of working in schools and colleges, this has helped her to understand the constraints under which colleagues operate.  Her expertise in business, assessment and learning and quality assurance enables her to help delegates understand the BTEC qualification requirements by providing both solutions and ideas for learning and assessment.
 

CONSTRUCTION BTEC FIRST & NATIONALS

John Cobley

John is an Edexcel Lead Verifier for the First and National Construction Programmes and currently providing a range of supporting services to education. John is a qualified teacher and has gained a wide range of qualifications from craft through to several degrees including an MSc in Educational Management and is an active member of the Chartered Institutes of Management and Building by examination. His career is illustrated by a wealth of experience, which stems from an apprenticeship in the Construction Industry and a number of roles within Education ranging from a classroom teacher to a Principal Lecturer and Curriculum Manager, responsible for a large faculty of Construction. For a period, John worked with Ofsted and carried out a large number of inspections before moving into his present consultancy role.
 

Health and Social Care

 

Sandra Ward

Sandra is an experienced assessor and internal verifier for BTEC Health and Social Care/Early Years and Vocational A Level programmes.  She has been teaching in secondary, further and higher education since 1988 and has worked as a lead verifier  and assessment associate for Edexcel since 2000.

Penelope Garnham

With a background in Nursing and Midwifery prior to entering education, Penny has a wealth of knowledge and experience that she brings to BTEC Health and Social Care. She has worked in further and higher education as a lecturer and manager for fifteen years. Penny is also an external verifier, writer and trainer for Edexcel and has written texts for Heinemann and Pearson’s Publishing; she has a variety of interests and roles in education and nutrition and enjoys writing and assessing in a freelance role.

Mary Whitehouse

Mary is also a very experienced Edexcel external verifier and examiner for BTEC Health and Social Care sectors.  She has worked in further education for over 20 years as a tutor and manager in several colleges and is now a freelance consultant.  She has also been a lead verifier since 2003 and has several other roles as an assessment associate including writer, approvals briefer and risk assessor.
 

Carolyn Aldworth

Carolyn qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1981.  She spent two years working on a rehabilitation ward for the elderly before training as a District Nurse.  Carolyn has been a Health and Social Care lecturer since 1988, and has many years experience of delivering BTEC National Diploma programmes in Care, Health Studies and Early Years.  She is a Curriculum Leader at South Nottingham College and has recently written  for two Heinemann publications, Core Themes in Health and Social Care, and the new BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care course textbook. 

Karon Chewter

Karon is the  Health and Social Care  coordinator at Basingstoke College of Technology for four years and has great experience of delivering BTEC National Diploma in Health Studies, Care and Early Years. She is author/editor of the forthcoming Tutor Resource file for the new BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care (2011 specification)  as well as contributing to the Tutor Resource file for the BTEC National Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development (2011 Specification).
 

Information Technology


Eddie Allman

Eddie has worked closely with Edexcel where he wrote many of the option units for the very successful GNVQ Intermediate and VCE qualifications in ICT.  He has successfully ran our grading and assessment conferences for the past four years. 

Judith Tope

Judith Tope taught in both Further and Higher Education centres for 30 years after gaining programming and analysis skills in both commercial and technological environments. She has 25 years’ experience of BTEC programmes in both Information Technology and Mathematical Applications.  This experience extends across teaching, assessment and both internal and external verification of levels 2-5. She has developed unit specifications, support materials including BTECinaBox and exemplar assessments.  She has been Lead Verifier for the ITP for last 5 years and Mathematical Applications for the past 2 years.

Barbara Wilson

Barbara is a successful author, consultant and Chair of Examiners.  She has been teaching and training for over 25 years in all types of post 11 institutions and has worked with companies and the National Computing Centre.  Barbara is a senior examiner for a leading exam board in AS ICT and currently works as a freelance education consultant for schools and colleges.
 

Public Services


June Morcom

June Morcom is an experienced training and vocational qualification development consultant with a background in Further Education and course inspections for awarding bodies. She has considerable experience of developing training programmes for a range of bodies, particularly in the areas of law enforcement, military and provision of care services in local authorities. She took a leading role in the development of the Edexcel BTEC National Diploma in Public Services and its accreditation at level 3 of the NQF. She has just been involved in writing the BTEC NC in Central and Local Government .
 

Science

Chris Kitchin

Chris has many years experience of teaching in schools, colleges and universities and is an external verifier for BTEC Science with Edexcel covering all levels of verification, approving briefs, conducting centre training days and carrying out quality control visits for many years.  Chris has also written many submissions for clients wanting to gain approval for their courses as well as working to rewrite modules for Edexcel.
 

Sport

Andrew Bardsley

Andrew is a current programme leader on national programmes in sport and sport and exercise science with over 10 years experience. He teaches across all modules and at all levels. He is an experienced Edexcel external verifier and has also worked for AQA as an external examiner. His ‘chalk face ‘ work means he can offer practical advice and solutions to the problems practitioners face daily.

Shannon Parker Bennett

Shannon has a wealth of experience in sports education at all levels.  She is a successful author of the BTEC First in Sport published by Heinemann as well as other publications.  She has hands on classroom experience and works closely with others to encourage the development and evaluation of effective ways of teaching and learning.  She is also involved in coaching others to create differentiated learning materials that stretch and challenge learners to aid retention, achievement and motivation.

Graham Saffrey

Graham is a successful author, EV and teacher in BTEC Sport.  He wrote BTEC Sport student handbook and tutor resource file for Heinemann Education.  He is also specification writer for the new BTEC Sport BTEC National programmes which are due to come on line in September 2011.
 

Travel and Tourism

Elise James

Elise is an independent education consultant with a vast experience in supporting the development, delivery and assessment of travel, leisure and tourism qualifications.  Having worked in leisure and tourism industries, Elise spent a number of years working in Further Education; both as a lecturer and in a management position.  She now works as Senior Examiner, Moderator and External Verifier with different awarding bodies.  She also works with a number of agencies supporting schools develop leisure, travel and tourism qualifications.  She is an excellent presenter and her training events are always very popular. 
 

Christine King (MTS)

Christine is an Education Consultant, having taught Travel and Tourism for over twenty years. Currently working as a Head of Travel, Tourism and Hospitality in an FE College, Chris has previously been an Edexcel Trainer and External Verifier and is at the dissertation stage of a Masters degree in Education Management (Inclusion).
